first_img– recaptured, charged for robberyChaos broke out at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on Monday after two prisoners escaped while being escorted into the compound by Police but after running some distance, they were recaptured.Recaptured: Navin Alli and Ceon RayThe two men, 24-year-old 24-year-old Navin Alli of Third Street, Alberttown, Georgetown and 20-year-old Ceon Ray of Lot 64 Sussex Street, Campbellville were charged for armed robbery and were due to make their court appearance on Monday.Nevertheless, as the vehicle carrying the two prisoners arrived at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court, they were being taken out when they started to run.Ali ran in the direction of the Kitty bus park and was accosted by a group police officers who became alerts due to the gunshots that were fired. Ray on the other hand ran towards Lombard Street but quick actions by the police ranks resulted in him being arrested.Ali reported suffered laceration to his forehead and claimed that he was beaten by the Police ranks. As they stood before Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus, Ali explained that he was beaten by the Police while Ray told the court that after exiting the vehicle, Ali started to run and he follow suite.However, Police stated that the two men on June 15, 2019 at Kingston, Georgetown robbed Tarrell Chu a quality items valued at $17,000. In addition, they were accused of robbing Isan Singh of a quantity of items valued at $56,500.Alli plead guilty to both charges, while Ray entered a not guilty plea.Stating the facts of the case, Police Prosecutor Quinn Harris explained that the victims are construction works and on the day in question, they were having lunch at the Kingston Seawalls when they were confronted by Ali and Ray who threatened to shoot if they moved.The victims did as was requested and it was this time, they were relieved of their valuables. The two suspects made good their escape.In fear, the victims raise an alarm and members of a Police Mobile Unit gave chase and managed to apprehend the bandits. Upon searching them, the items were found in their possession.The two men were taken into custody and a confrontation was held during which the victims positively identified them as the robbers.Ali told the court that he normally “clean-up” the beach and about a month ago while he was asleep, some men tackled him and stabbed him to his abdomen.He claimed he was robbed of $15,000 cash and that he reported the matter to the police outpost at Stabroek and was sent to seek medical attention.The court further heard that Alli was released from prison on Thursday last, after serving a six-month sentence for armed robbery. He was also charged seven times in the past.Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus after listening to both sides, sentenced Alli to 2 ½ year imprisonment on each charge, each will run concurringly. She then remanded Ray to prison, where he will be slated to make his next court appearance on June 24.last_img read more
