first_imgSAN ANTONIO, Texas – The University of Incarnate Word athletics wrapped up its holiday giving season with the Angel Tree event on the UIW campus. The Cardinals athletic department was led by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) in gathering items to be delivered to Catholic Charities of San Antonio.Throughout the month of November, tables were set up inside the UIW Life Skills center in addition to all home athletic contests in order to gather donated items such as toys, clothes, toiletries and gift cards for families and individuals in need in the San Antonio area. The Angel Tree event was established by the Incarnate Word SAAC as a means for Cardinals student-athletes to gather every day essential items that may be overlooked during the holiday giving season.All collected items were delivered to Catholic Charities of San Antonio during the first week of December. Catholic Charities of San Antonio benefits the Guadalupe Community Center, Seton Home and St. PJ’s Children’s Shelter.The mission of Catholic Charities is to provide for the needs of the community through selfless service under the sign of love. Committed to empowering individuals and families with the goal of fostering independence, the organization provides over 40 bilingual and culturally sensitive programs in 19 counties which comprise the Archdiocese of San Antonio.As part of the “Southland Gives Back” initiative, the Southland Conference will profile a community service outing from each of our 13 member institutions this holiday season.last_img read more

first_imgBrentford have extended the loan spell of Everton forward Chris Long until the end of the play-offs following his successful spell with the Championship club.Long joined the west London side back in January and has played his part in helping Mark Warburton’s team secure a top six finish which keeps alive their hopes of reaching the Premier League next season.The 20-year-old has scored four goals in ten appearances but has been forced to miss the final month of the season through illness and injury.However, he is now back in action and will be available to face Middlesbrough in the crucial play-off semi-finals which get underway on Friday.Warburton said: “It has been a frustrating few weeks for Chris with a combination of illness and niggling injury.“However, he is now approaching full fitness and we hope very much that he will have a role to play in the crucial games that lie ahead.“He is a talented player and hungry to be involved and the type of lad who adds value to the squad.” 1 Chris Long in action for Brentford last_img read more
