During the week, Montebello Gardens students were asked to wear red shirts to school and elastic wrist bands with the slogan, “Drug abuse is life abuse.’ Other local Red Ribbon events continue through this weekend and include a pumpkin decorating and carving contest today at La Merced Intermediate School in Montebello. The school plans a costume parade on Monday emphasizing that drugs are no treat. The assembly, led by Principal Norma J. Perez, was one of many events held this week at schools throughout the Whittier area for the anti-drug week. “We’ve actually been talking this up all month, so the children learn to make good choices for themselves and their families,’ said Perez.
