first_imgSecond subsidy-free solar-plus-storage facility opens in U.K. FacebookTwitterLinkedInEmailPrint分享PV Magazine:German battery manufacturer Tesvolt today announced the completion of a 7.4 MW PV power plant and 4.4 MW battery installation. The system was commissioned by West Sussex County Council in mid-October; and has now successfully completed its testing phase. As with the first subsidy free solar project in the UK, developed by Anesco, additional income brought in by the co-located battery is key to the business model: “Thanks to the high-voltage storage system, the local government earns additional money with grid services,” explains German manufacturer Tesvolt, which supplied the battery system. “Power generated at the solar farm will be sold on the electricity wholesale market. The batteries will generate additional income from price arbitrage, frequency services and triad management/ capacity market income.”Westhampnett Solar Farm is built on a disused landfill site, and is expected to provide enough power for more than 2,000 homes for the next 25 years. “it makes absolute sense for us to use our natural resources and to generate clean energy that can be fed in to the local electricity grid,” said County Council Leader Louise Goldsmith. “As one of the first solar farms to be built with battery storage and free from government subsidy, we are blazing a trail among local authorities and demonstrating that councils have a role to play as local leaders on energy.”While solar installations in the UK have largely ground to a halt since the government ended subsidies, a few business models have shown the ability to go subsidy free – particularly by leveraging the additional grid services a battery can provide.More: More subsidy free solar + storage for the U.K.last_img read more

first_imgIt sounds like it’s going to be an open competition for the Giants’ starting quarterback job this year.Coach Pat Shurmur made some telling remarks Tuesday regarding the team’s QB situation and the possibility of a competition between veteran Eli Manning and rookie Daniel Jones. Giants QB Eli Manning motivated by winning, not rookie Daniel Jones “We’re gonna play the very best player. I know we’re dancing around the words here, but right now Eli is getting ready to have a great year and Daniel is getting ready to play. We’ll just see what happens. …— Tom Rock (@TomRock_Newsday) June 11, 2019We feel good where Eli is, he’s our starting quarterback, and we’ve got a young player that we think is going to be an outstanding player getting himself ready to play.”— Tom Rock (@TomRock_Newsday) June 11, 2019Shurmur also said he is constantly weighing between the two players and who gives the team the best chance to win.New York has been very complimentary of Jones this season with the team’s offensive coordinator Mike Shula saying last month he believes the first-round pick will be ready quickly.“I think he’d be ready to go (on Day 1), that’s my personal opinion,” Shula said, via the New York Post. “I do. I would say this — times have changed. In years past, you draft a guy, whenever you draft him, even if he was that early, those guys would traditionally not play until their second or third year. But really ever since probably six or seven years ago you started seeing more guys playing early. But I think he has that capability.”This doesn’t mean Jones will be the team’s starter for the first game of the season, but the team apparently is confident Jones is NFL ready.”He’s on track with the goal to be ready to play on Day 1,” Shurmur “He’s on track with the goal to be ready to play on Day 1,” Shurmur said of Jones. “The QB stuff will be on the front burner for everybody. I get that. But he’s on track.”— Tom Rock (@TomRock_Newsday) June 11, 2019 “We’re gonna play the very best player,” Shurmur said, via Newsday. “I know we’re dancing around the words here, but right now Eli is getting ready to have a great year and Daniel is getting ready to play.
